Some time around July 1518, a woman in Strasbourg, France began to dance and would not stop. Soon, others joined. Before long, over 400 people were afflicted by what became known as the Dancing Plague. In 1950s Louisiana, a young woman would be plagued by a the sound of someone whistling a funeral dirge. Mental health problems could have been an easy scapegoat, however, other family members would soon experience all sorts of harassment.
