The NFL has tried its hand in intercontinental expansion for many years. American Football was a non-NFL concept tossed around since the mid-1970s, but was put into effect as an NFL brand in 1991. Utilized as a Spring League and a rules/features testing ground, it never quite garnered the success that was expected of it, but developed a handful of future NFL stars in it’s 15 seasons.
